Ramsey Theory Group Founder Dan Herbatschek Commits $600,000 Annually to a New Fellowship for Exceptional Students on Non-Linear Paths

Ten fellows will receive $60,000 each, together with a year-long circuit of rigorous study, mentorship and practical work across mathematics, technology and business.

Ramsey Theory Group will commit $600,000 annually in direct support to ten fellows. Each fellow will receive a $60,000 allocation and participate in a 12-month educational and professional circuit spanning foundational knowledge, advanced mathematics, code, modeling, technology, applications and business.

The fellowship is built on the premise that financial support is essential but often insufficient by itself. In addition to funding, each fellow will receive an individualized plan, sustained mentorship, recurring progress reviews, practical exposure and the expectation of completing substantial final work.

"We are too quick to mistake continuity for merit and interruption for a lack of seriousness. The distance between talent and opportunity is made of concrete things: tuition, time, guidance, professional networks and the freedom to concentrate. This fellowship is intended to bring those forms of support into a single circuit."

said Dan Herbatschek, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Ramsey Theory Group.

Herbatschek's own education followed a nontraditional path. After several years away from formal study, he returned through community college and later transferred to Columbia University, where he studied intellectual history, philosophy, logic and mathematics. His research explored mathematics, artificial languages and changing conceptions of time during the Scientific Revolution. He later founded Ramsey Theory Group as part of an effort to reconcile rigorous intellectual inquiry with practical work in technology and business.

The fellowship will evaluate candidates for intellectual ability, seriousness, initiative, program fit and the likely effect of substantial support. It is intended for candidates whose conventional records may not fully capture their capacity, including returning students, community-college and transfer students, immigrants, first-generation students, students balancing education with work or family responsibility and self-taught candidates seeking stronger foundations.

Difficulty alone will not determine selection. Fellows will be held to demanding standards of participation, intellectual honesty, professional integrity and completed work.

Applications for the first cohort will open on September 1, 2026 and close on January 15, 2027. The fellowship will begin on [TBD] first cohort start date. Candidates may learn more at [TBD] URL.
